STRONG...BUT NOISY
I originally purchased this vac in 2002. I mostly use this little vac on a 21/2 inch dust collection system for my table saw and miter saw. It does a real good job of removing dust and chips from the two tools. I have it hanging on a 10x10 post to one side of my small shop and can vacuum the whole shop floor with the 18 foot vac hose that came with the machine. It has a good selection of tools and filter replacement is fast and easy. However, it is noisy. It actually drowns out the sound of my table saw. The 4" Delta dust collector I use for my planer and jointer is actually quieter than this little vac. I will continue to use it (maybe build a sound box for it), because it does do a great job. Except for the noise level, I would reccommend it to anyone.
An update...Nov. 2004...8 months after I got this machine it started making strange growling sounds at shutdown, and was getting very hot. I called Shop Vac's customer service and the rep was extremely helpful. She told me to put it in the orig box and ship it back to them and they would replace or repair it free. I commented that the orig box was long gone, and could I use a generic box. She said never mind, we will send you a new unit and you put the old one in that box and send it back. Three days later the new machine showed up, I unpacked it and repacked the old one, applied the shipping label they supplied and sent it back. The replacement machine has worked flawlessly now for about a year and a half. Want to thank Shop Vac for their excellent customer service.
Update...April 2005..This little vac is still hanging on it's post and doing a great job. It probably averages 2-3 hours of run time every day and has performed perfectly. It now only services the miter saw, r/o sanders, large disc sander and of course cleaning the shop( everything else is on the 4"). Still highly recommend this vac...it is a great little tool.
UPDATE...JANUARY 2007..It's still hanging on its post and still doing a great job. Ya gotta love a machine that keeps on delivering great performance year after year. Still highly recommend this vac.
STILL JAN 2007...shortly after writing the update above my little vac began to make weird noises at shutdown. I contacted my local repair shop and was told if they had to get into the motor it would cost over $100 to repair. They recommended that I contact Shopvac direct. I called the 1-800 number and after speaking to a very nice young lady, discovered I could purchase a new motor for $40, including shipping. Needless to say I ordered one. It took about ten days to arrive in the mail and took less than 15 minutes to install. My little vac is once again doing its job, still hanging on the same post for over five years. I think any electrical appliance that will last five years with the use and abuse this one has had is a great machine. Still highly recommend.

They arrived quickly, are easy to put into the machine, and hold a good bit of dirt.

Don't be fooled you will not get true HEPA output!!
Yes this vacuum is lite, it's small, it has very good suction and reasonable (a bit small) tools. Though one of the biggest reasons many people buy it is for is it's proclaimed HEPA filtration. This seems like false advertising and I shall explain why. The unit is advertised to provide HEPA filtration but most of the exaust is not expelled through the filter!! Rather it is expelled through the rear of the vacuum where the cord is attached. This is likely because the unit is not sealed. A HEPA filter is attached on the exaust port at the top of the unit but exaust is routed out of cracks do to back-pressure from the HEPA filter. HEPA filters can catch particles as small as 3 microns and this makes them very resistant to air flow. Back pressure is built up due to this resistance and the resulting pressure forces the air to escape through paths of lesser resistance. Unfortunately this releases most all the molds, dust mites, and other allergins into the air. As matter of fact it seems that the filter may only filter 15% of the exaust on this vacuum, the rest finds its way out the cord release and other cracks. Bottom line the unit is flawed by design and saying it offers HEPA filtration is a lie. Anyone who designed this vacuum had to of known this to be true before it hit the market. Their is just about no way any design engineer could of overlooked this. Bissell desided to sell the unit anyway and claim it has HEPA filtration. What a con... Now many people will purchase this unit and never realize that it is not providing the level of filtration it advertised.
I did call their customer service and the service rep (very nice) did confirm that exaust was also expelled from the rear on the sample unit they had in the office. This was all he could say. I Would love to hear from someone at Bissell with regard to this. It would be nice to see a company stand behind their claims. Untill then no stars!!!

Great Vac. Lightwieght, Bagged and great price
I like this vac so much I bought a second one just for when this one dies. I owned the old style Dirt Devil Featherlite and really like it a lot, lightweight, simple but worked great, although it was loud. I like a bagged vac and something thats not to big and hard to use. When the the old Dirt Devil Featherlight finally died we went and bought the new Featherlite vac and it was junk, don't waste your money. This Dirt Devil Vibe was just what I was looking for. It is light, bagged and surprisingly quiet compared to my old one. It has a center dirt path meaning the dirt doesnt have to go up, around and through the whole hose attachment to get in the bag. Most all new vacuums go all through the hose and that zaps the suction and makes it easier to clog. It's easy to push and easy to carry unlike many of the others I looked at. I bought a Kenmore at sears for $170 which I promptly took back...big, bulky, so hard to push and didn't have the suction this one has. Comes with hepa filter and spare belt that stores right on the unit. They recommend replacing the two filters once a year. It's about 13" wide which makes it easier for me to get around the furniture. This vacuum is a bargain and I got the free shipping too. You can find some more reviews on it at Target.com.

Don't forget to buy the ten pack of U bags for 7.99 with free shipping when you order.

Light weight and not especially powerful..
but,for the price, it rated 4 stars for me. So far, no leaking issues and the brush bar does rotate, as long as the front piece that holds the sucked up dirty liquid is replaced properly. If it is not, it leaks like a sieve and there is next to no suction. Regarding the time it takes for the carpet to dry, it really is not bad, if you just move slowly and give the machine a chance to suck up the liquid. If you move fast, much is left behind and it takes extra long to dry. Expect dissapointment if you want to get your whole house done in a day. The brush head is small and the machine is not very powerful, so for the cleaning to be effective you will need to take your time and make sure you get everything up. This machine is best for those without big stain problems and is best suited for those that clean their carpets with some regularity. If your carpet is trashed and really dirty, you need something bigger and more powerful (or professionals).
